Gunvor remains largest trader of LNG

According to Reuters, by the end of 2019 Gunvor will have delivered 45% more LNG than it did in 2018, maintaining a hold on its ‘largest independent LNG trader’ status.
The 45% increase accounts for a rise in supply from the company from 11 million tpy in 2018, to 16 million tpy of LNG by the end of 2019.
According to Kalpesh Patel, Gunvor’s co-head of LNG, the company’s significant presence in the LNG market is the result of “consistent and reliable performance and strong partnerships along the value chain.”
Furthermore, Patel expressed that Gunvor remains confident of the future growth of natural gas within the energy mix, despite the challenging supply conditions of the present.
In 2019, Gunvor’s rival trading houses, Trafigura and Glencore, also reported growth in their LNG trading. Indeed, Trafigura saw growth of 12.6 million tpy; and Glencore reported an increase of 11 million tpy of LNG traded.
For the year, India was Gunvor’s largest market, purchasing 75 cargoes.
