According to the statement, Australia already surpasses Qatar in terms of LNG export capacity, and even exported more LNG in November 2018 and April of this year. Within the next year, the EIA expects Australia to consistently export more LNG than Qatar, as newly commissioned projects ramp up and begin to operate at full capacity.
In 2011, Australia’s LNG export capacity stood at 2.6 billion ft3/d. In 2019, it stands at 11.4 billion ft3/d. The DIIS reportedly forecasts that the country’s exports will increase to 10.8 billion ft3/d by 2020 – 2021 once the Wheatstone, Ichthys and Prelude projects reach full production.
