General Dynamics NASSCO has announced that it has hosted the keel laying ceremony for the Liberty – a 610 ft long, 50 000 dwt, LNG conversion-ready product tanker with a 330 000 barrel cargo capacity. The vessel is one of three ECO Class tankers under the same construction contract with SEA-Vista LLC (a partnership between Avista Capital Partners and SEACOR Holdings Inc.).
Construction of the vessel commenced in October 2015. Once it has been delivered, it will be operated by Seabulk Tankers Inc.
The Liberty is in line with the Jones Act, which dictates that all vessels carrying cargoes between US ports must be constructed in US shipyards.
