Klaipedos Nafta has announced that the 20th small scale LNG reloading operation has been successfully executed at the Klaipeda LNG terminal in Lithuania.

On the morning of 28 January, the LNG feeder and bunker vessel Kairos arrived at the Klaipeda LNG terminal to carry out the reload operation.

According to the statement, LNG reload operations in Klaipeda commenced two years ago. The first LNG reload operation from the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to the small scale LNG gas carrier was performed at the beginning of 2017, when the terminal accepted and loaded the small scale LNG gas carrier Coral Energy. This was the first reload operation not only in Lithuania, but also worldwide.

To date, Klaipedos Nafta has carried out 20 LNG reload operations to gas carriers of companies including Shell and Gasum, which re-exported gas to small scale LNG import terminals in Sweden, Finland and Norway through the Klaipeda LNG distribution station.

Mindaugas Jusius, KN CEO, said: “The fast-growing number of small scale LNG reload operations demonstrates the interest of the corporate world in the growing market of small scale LNG re-export operations, and it is the fifth operation of such kind performed in Klaipeda since the beginning of the year. The services provided by Klaipeda LNG terminal and the LNG distribution station are in high demand among the customers not only because of the convenient geographical position of our infrastructure in the Baltic Sea region, but also due to the high flexibility of our terminal. This is important because the performance of LNG activities in Klaipeda makes it possible to decrease the LNG terminal operation costs through the safety constituent, which is part of the gas price for consumers in Lithuania.”

Kairos, which is operated by Klaipedos Nafta and its partner, has transported the cargo from the LNG terminal to the LNG distribution station operated by the company. It is the second Kairos operation in the Port of Klaipeda. The first reload operation performed by the vessel at the Klaipeda LNG terminal took place on 7 January.
