Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd (MOL) has released a statement claiming that one of its subsidiaries, Lakler S.A., has agreed to conclude a charter contract with Gas Sayago for a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) project in Montevideo, Uruguay. The project will be led by Gas Sayago, which is joint venture (JV) between the state power company, UTE, and the state oil company, ANCAP. MOL claims that a final deal could be reached in June 2016.

The FSRU is already under construction at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) in South Korea. It will have a 263 000 m3 storage tank – the largest capacity of any FSRU in the world. Following the completion of construction activities, the vessel will travel to Uruguay, where it will commence its receiving and regasification operations.

The signing ceremony was held in Montevideo, and was attended by the President of Gas Sayago, César Briozzo, and the President of Lakler, Takeshi Hashimoto.
