Thailand’s PTT to increase LNG terminal capacity

According to Reuters, Thailand’s PTT Pcl is planning to invest a further US$28 million in order to increase the capacity of its LNG import terminal in Map Ta Phut, which is located in the eastern Rayong province. The company is looking to increase the capacity of the terminal by 1.5 million tpy, which would bring the total capacity to 11.5 million tpy by 2019. PTT is currently already in the process of doubling the annual capacity of the terminal to 10 million tpy, with work scheduled for completion by 2017.
Reuters reports that the national energy policy committee has also granted approval to construct a second LNG terminal. The facility would be situated in a different location, but still within the Rayong province. It would have a capacity of 5 million tpy of LNG, and a budget of US$1.08 billion. PTT will reportedly look into the possibility of increasing the capacity to 7.5 million tpy, with the construction phase to be finished in 2022.
Reuters also reports that the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will study a proposal to construct a 5 million tpy floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which would be located in the North of the Gulf of Thailand. The study will be finalised in approximately three and a half months, with a recommendation to the energy ministry to follow.
