The 174 000 m3 membrane-type vessel has been ordered from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME), and is expected to be delivered in 2019.
The equipment on board will provide data to the shore-side centers, enabling both the vessel owner and ABB to take a proactive approach to maintenance throughout the vessel’s lifetime.
The Managing Director of ABB’s marine and ports business, Juha Koskela, said: “The modern power system must be both efficient and connected.
“Our hardware will optimise fuel efficiency on board whilst the Collaborative Operations Centers will monitor the vessel allowing a more informed approach to maintenance.”
Along with the electric propulsion system, the company’s power and generation system will work in conjunction with the dual-fuel diesel engine plant to maximise uptime. Generators, switchboards, transformers, main propulsion drives and motors – which are all covered by ABB’s scope of supply – will transmit performance data using sensors. This information is monitored automatically from shore at the Collaborative Operations Centers and ABB will work with the customer during both routine and urgent maintenance cases.
