Proposed Gulf LNG facility passes environmental test

The facility is designed to feature two LNG trains, which, combined, will produce up to 10.8 million tpy of LNG. This is equivalent to approximately 1.4 billion ft3/d. For reference, 1 billion ft3 of gas is sufficient to fuel around 5 million homes for a day.
This signifies another major step towards receiving federal approval to begin construction. According to Reuters, the report states that the construction and operation of the project would result in some negative environmental impacts, but that these “would be avoided or reduced to less-than-significant levels” if the company follows certain recommendations.
FERC commissioners take the staff’s recommendations into consideration when they make a decision on the project. Reuters reports that Kinder Morgan has not yet made a final investment decision (FID).
