Shell looking to increase Egyptian LNG exports this year

According to Reuters, this year Royal Dutch Shell is planning to increase its LNG exports from Egypt as it increases production from a West Delta field.

Reportedly, the company is hoping to ship more cargoes this year, with the West Delta Deep Marine field Phase 9B project scheduled for completion by year-end. For reference, last year the company shipped 12 LNG cargoes from the Idku plant.

According to Reuters, Shell was one amongst a number of companies to have recently been awarded new exploration rights in Egypt. Reuters reports that the Dutch major secured 12 concessions offered in a bidding round.

The company’s country chairman, Gasser Hanter, reportedly said: “The blocks we won today complement the picture for us.

“We are equally focused on onshore and offshore going forward.”

The chairman added that the current output at the Idku facility is in the 200 – 300 million ft3/d range – in other words, not enough to run both of the facility’s trains.
