LNG Industry,
This news comes after Golar reached a deal to use the concept at BP’s Tortue gas development.
The Hilli Episeyo produced its first LNG in May this year, and is now operating at commercially agreed levels. According to Reuters, Golar is now proceeding with its portion of the Tortue development, after it reached a preliminary agreement with BP in April this year to provide an FLNG unit for the project.
Chief Executive Iain Ross reportedly said: “The FEED (front end engineering development) update is being progressed at pace — we have a couple of months to go on that and we have strong interest with lenders.”
Ross reportedly added that both BP and partner Kosmos Energy were planning to make a final investment decision (FID) on the development by the end of this year, with first LNG scheduled to be produced prior to the end of 2021.
Reuters reports that there are a further two or three FLNG prospects other than Tortue that have emerged ever since the FLNG technology has proven successful.
Ross added: “We’re seeing Hilli’s proof of concept triggering new interest... We think this is a truly disruptive solution in an industry not known for its disruptive solutions.”
