The facility is an export plant located in Baja California, Mexico. Originally, Reuters reports the company had planned to make an FID in late this year.
The CEO of IENOVA, Tania Ortiz Mena Lopez Negrete, said last week that the company is currently carrying out the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bid process in order to choose a suitable contractor and determine the facility’s CAPEX.
The CEO went on to say that the bid process will continue through the end of the year, noting that the company was currently negotiating definitive agreements with its customers: Total SA, Mitsui & Co. and Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd. In addition to this, she said that the company is still in the process of acquiring the final major permit necessary for the project (the gas export permit).
According to Reuters, the project could deliver its first LNG in 2023. The first phase of the project is designed to be a single-train liquefaction facility capable of producing approximately 2.4 million tpy of LNG. Reuters reports that Sempra is also developing a second phase at the project.
