Pointe LNG LLC has released a statement claiming that it has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to initiate pre-filing review for its proposed LNG liquefaction and export facility.

The facility is to be located in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, US, on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River, approximately two miles south of Pointe a la Hache, Louisiana.

According to Pointe LNG, the facility will have an initial export capacity of 6 million tpy, and will be designed using three 2 million tpy modular trains provided by Chart’s IPSMR®+ LNG liquefaction technology. In 2014, a significant portion of the site was reviewed by FERC in connection with another LNG export terminal project that was proposed previously.

James Lindsay, the co-founder of Pointe LNG, said: “We are pleased to have completed this important step in the permitting process. Due to the site's location on the east bank of the Mississippi River, we have exceptional access to natural gas pipeline capacity which provides access to significant gas supply basins including the Marcellus, Stack & Scoop and Haynesville with minimal pipeline construction requirements.

“Once permitting and final investment decision is reached, our facility will provide invaluable economic benefits to the region, and enhance Louisiana's position as a vital supplier to the world's energy markets.”

Tom Burgess, the company' s co-founder, added: “We believe that our 600+ acre site will be the most cost-effective LNG project on the Gulf of Mexico. Our site has over 6500 linear feet of river frontage with an existing water depth of 65 ft, no anticipated dredging requirements, minimal lateral pipelines to construct, and a modular construction technology that will provide considerable process efficiency.”

Assuming that a number of contingencies are satisfied, including Pointe LNG’s receipt of financing and all necessary permits and approvals, such that it reaches a final investment decision (FID), Pointe LNG claims that construction is expected to commence in 1Q21, with initial operations expected in 1Q25.
