Wison Offshore & Marine (WOM) has announced that it has received approval in principle (AIP) from American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for its new Floating Natural Gas to Methanol (FGTM) facility.

According to the statement, the facility has been developed by Wison for the offshore gas production industry. The fully integrated gas-to-methanol system is reportedly more cost-effective for ‘stranded’ natural gas production, and can eliminate heavy upfront CAPEX during offshore LNG production.

The topside design will be provided by Wison Engineering (WEL), and the floating methanol facility will feature a combination of both WEL and WOM technical experience. According to the statement, the facility is capable of being implemented at nearshore/offshore gas fields, with a yearly capacity of 1.8 million t of methanol, and offers a storage capacity of up to 200 000 m3.
