LNG Industry,
Aqualis Offshore is part of Aqualis ASA, and will deliver the project as a subcontractor to OCEANUS, which is responsible for the transportation and installation contract on the behalf of its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, GS E&C.
OCEANUS will transport the topside, weighing 7000 t, from Laem Chabang, Thailand, to its final destination at the LNG terminal location in Bahrain.
Under the terms of the subcontract, Aqualis Offshore will provide project management services, specialist floatover engineering, and supervision for loadout and floatover installation operations. The work will begin immediately, with the company’s involvement set to run until 3Q18. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
The new facilities will include: an onshore receiving facility; a newbuild floating storage unit (FSU); and a fixed platform for unloading LNG carriers. Together, these will comprise the LNG import terminal development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Phil Lenox, Director – Asia Pacific, Aqualis Offshore, said: “This is an important project for Aqualis Offshore. Topside floatovers are a specialist competence of ours which we are very happy to utilise in what has been a somewhat weak floatover market in recent years. Although this is not a particularly heavy topside compared to many floatovers, the project has some interesting challenges with the shallow water depth. This contract also highlights the importance of having a physical presence in both Asia and the Middle East.”
