LNG Industry,

Höegh LNG has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Regional Maritime University in Ghana (RMU).

The MoU, which was signed on 16 June 2017, is for the support and maritime capacity development for both RMU and Ghanaian seafarers. Quantum Power Ghana is also party to the MoU.

Utilising a new, purpose-built floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) supplied by Höegh LNG, Quantum Power plans to build, own and operate an LNG terminal facility offshore Tema.

Höegh LNG claims that it intends to actively work with RMU to improve the competence of Ghanaian seafarers and RMU lecturers, as well as Ghanaian pilots and tug masters, in order to improve the nation’s ability to safely and efficiently work with gas carriers. In the statement, Höegh claims that LNG is to set to become an increasingly important part of the nation’s energy mix, so it is important that it develops its own capacity to handle LNG installations.
