Petronas has released a statement claiming that it has successfully launched the hull of its second floating LNG (FLNG) vessel, PFLNG2. The hull was launched at Samsung Heavy Industries’ (SHI) shipyard in Geoje Island, South Korea. Construction of the 393 m long hull commenced in June 2015.

Datuk Abdullah Karim, Petronas’ Advisor of Global LNG Project – Project Delivery and Technology, said: “We take great pride in achieving this important milestone. The many lessons learnt from the design and construction of PFLNG Satu have been applied to PFLNG2. I look forward to the successful completion of PFLNG2 and must thank the project team JGC and SHI for the good job.”

Tuan Haji Zakaria Kasah, Petronas’ Vice President of Group Project Delivery – Project Delivery and Technology, added: “The project has a good track record and safety performance that will ensure project deliveries are met as planned.”

Petronas, along with the JGC Group and SHI, the consortium that is taking the lead in the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the vessel, commemorated the launch of the hull by pledging to deliver the complete vessel on schedule, with safety as the major priority.

Once the vessel has been completed, it will weigh 134 000 t, and will serve in the Rotan field, which is located 240 km offshore Sabah. It will have a total processing capacity of 1.5 million tpy.
