Crowley takes delivery of fourth LNG-ready product tanker

Crowley Maritime Corp. has announced that it has taken delivery of MT West Virginia. The vessel is the fourth new Jones Act product tanker that has been constructed for the company by the sole operating subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA – Philly Shipyard Inc. (PSI).

The vessel is LNG conversion ready, and will join its sister ships, Louisiana, Ohio and Texas. These first three vessels were delivered in 2015 and 2016, and are the first have received ABS’s LNG-Ready Level 1 approval.

All four of the vessels are 50 000 dwt, 600 ft long and are capable of carrying 330 000 barrels of product. They are based on a proven Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design, and are chartered by Marathon Petroleum Corp.

We congratulate Philly Shipyard for reaching this milestone, as well as the dedicated, hard-working men and women who build and crew these ships.”

Steinar Nerbovik, the President and CEO of Philly Shipyard, added: “Today’s delivery marks the successful completion of a four tanker series for Crowley. We have appreciated a strong partnership with Crowley, stemming from the previous two Crowley tankers delivered in both 2012 and 2013, and today are proud to add these four safe and quality vessels to its growing fleet. On behalf of the men and women at the shipyard, we send our well wishes to the dedicated crew that will operate the West Virginia.”
