Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has announced that Ryder System Inc. will switch its fuel to Clean Energy’s RedeemTM renewable natural gas (RNG) at its stations in Orange and Fontana, California, US. The fuel will be available in CNG and LNG forms to public and individual fleet vehicles.

Redeem is a methane-based renewable fuel. Once processed, the methane is purified and sent through the interstate natural gas pipeline for Clean Energy’s customers. Clean Energy is currently scheduled to deliver 40 million gal. of Redeem in 2015.

The Vice President of Supply Management and Global Fuel Products at Ryder, Scott Perry, said: “Our decision to use 100% renewable natural gas is based upon our ongoing commitment to ensuring we are delivering solutions that help our customers reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“With Redeem we achieve that with a 100% renewable fuel.”

Clean energy claims that by utilising Redeem, Ryder will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 6300 tpy, which would be the equivalent of taking approximately 1319 cars off of the road per year.

The agreement also dictates that Clean Energy will provide maintenance services for Ryder’s fuel stations in Orange and Fontana. Ryder is currently the only truck leasing and logistics company that also provides on-site CNG and LNG fuel to the public.

The President of Clean Energy Renewables, Harrison Clay, added: “After launching Redeem as a commercial fuel just two short years ago, Clean Energy is on track to deliver over 40 million gal. this year.

“Ryder’s leadership to provide Redeem at their two stations in southern California will now expand the benefits of the cleanest fuel to Ryder commercial customers’ fleets operating hundreds of additional heavy duty trucks and other vehicles.”
