LNG Industry,
The shipbuilding contract was signed at NYK’s head office on 31 January 2020, and will see the vessel delivered in 2022.
This second LNG-fuelled PCTC follows the first vessel announced by NYK announced in September last year, which was selected as a model project by Japan’s Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The first vessel will receive support from the ministries for technical verification of CO2 emission reductions during actual voyages.
In the statement, NYK claims that it is making a proactive effort to transition to LNG-fuelled vessels. In addition to these LNG-fuelled PCTCs, the company claims an LNG-fuelled coal carrier will also be delivered in 2023.
