Gasum has strengthened its gas filling station network for heavy-duty transport with the opening of a new LNG and LBG filling station in Lieto.
The station has opened in the Avanti business and industrial area on highway 10. It serves long-haul transport and will help logistics companies to reduce their emissions cost-efficiently. Use of low-emission fuels is increasing across the EU as businesses strive to respond to emission reduction targets and consumer wishes.
The new gas filling station in Lieto is located at Eteläkaari 1, and, together with the gas filling station in Turku Harbor, strengthens the distribution of LNG and LBG for the needs of long-haul transport. The gas filling stations support the local circular economy by utilising renewable biogas produced from local bio-waste and sewage sludge at the Turku biogas plant, making even cleaner fuel solutions and a circular economy solution accessible to local logistics companies.
Gasum’s expanding network of gas filling stations brings gas within reach of a growing numbers of business, and helps provide a pathway towards reaching national and EU emission reductions targets for heavy-duty transport. Under the new emissions regulations adopted by the EU in 2019, carbon dioxide emissions from heavy-duty vehicles must be reduced by 30% by 2030. In Finland, road traffic emissions must be halved by 2030 compared to 2005 levels.
“We’re very proud to have opened a new station in Lieto and that it strengthens the Nordic gas filling station network. Consumers and lawmakers increasingly expect actors in the heavy-duty transport sector to provide eco-friendly services. It is important to improve accessibility to low-emission fuel solutions so that Nordic freight can be transported increasingly more cleanly. Each new gas filling station takes us closer to that goal,” says Jani Arala, Senior Sales Manager, Traffic, Gasum.
