Indonesian ferronickel plant to make the switch to LNG

ANTAM has announced that it has selected PT PGN LNG Indonesia, which is a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk, to supply it with LNG. This will be used as an energy source for ANTAM’s ferronickel plant in Pomalaa, Indonesia.
In a statement, ANTAM claims that the use of LNG will lower the cost of ferronickel production. The President Director of ANTAM, Tedy Badrujaman, added: “The use of gas will further lower the ferronickel production cost. As a result ANTAM will be more competitive and is expected to generate higher returns from the nickel business.”
Currently, the 8x17 MW plant operates using fuel oil, but the conversion is underway. ANTAM has confirmed that it has already started retrofitting all necessary equipment.
