Alpha Process Controls (APC) has announced that it has completed the production and supply of one of its LNG hose transfer systems, which has been installed at GNL Quintero’s regasification terminal in Chile.

The LNG hose transfer system features innovative Emergency Release Collar (ERC) breakaway couplings.

The UK-based division of the GT Group has dispatched the completed ERC systems, which feature in both the liquid and vapour lines, to South America from the UK, following the completion of a series of independently verified Factory Acceptance Tests.

The ERC coupling systems, which have received class accreditation from Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, feature APC’s two-stage emergency release cable technology. This technology enables the controlled shutdown of internal valves, ESD 1, before instigating a coupling, ESD 2, separation.

Through the controlled shutdown, even at high flow rates, pressure surges are maintained to a level without compromising pipework or pumps in the event of a ship-to-shore separation caused by vessel drift-away.

APC has also supplied fixed and adjustable height saddles, LNG hoses, concentric reducers and deployment equipment. The systems include a bespoke support transfer unit to manoeuvre the ERC couplings into position on the jetty and to meet vessel configurations.

Once delivered to the Pacific Coast facility, the systems will be utilised for emergency ship-to-shore transfer of LNG, providing operational continuity if the terminal’s pre-installed loading arms cannot be used.

John Lamb, Managing Director of APC, said: “Our ERC systems are building a strong reputation within the global LNG industry, which will be enhanced by the completion of this prestigious project.

“Working closely with GNL Quintero we have delivered a solution that meets its specific requirements, which are focused on sustaining the productivity of its LNG transfer processes.

“Ensuring operational continuity and maintaining efficiency is essential for LNG terminals and our systems provide an innovative and effective solution in the event of a transfer interruption.”
