According to multiple sources, Bangladesh is likely to land 3.75 million t of LNG at an estimated cost of US$2.28 billion from Qatar state-owned RasGas.

The cabinet committee on economic affairs recently accepted a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to negotiate with RasGas for fixing tariff of LNG import under a government-to-government negotiation. Bangladesh is facing gas supply shortage of 700 million ft³/d.

The government has been considering setting up several LNG terminals in the country for importing gas, and an agreement has already been signed with US-based Excelerate Energy. The LNG terminal company will supply 500 million ft³/d, for which the government will pay a total of US$1.56 billion in a year.

On 4 January the company signed a second contract with local private sector firm Summit Group to build an FLNG terminal at Moheshkhali Island.
