Japanese company Tohoku Electric Power has signed a contract to buy liquefied natural gas from Petronas’ Malaysia LNG project (MLNG).
The supply contract is for 10 years and will commence in 2016, according to local media reports.
Japanese imports of LNG have rapidly increased since the Fukushima nuclear disaster as the country turned towards alternative energy supply options.
Under the contract, Tohoku will buy 370 000 tpa of LNG from April 2016.
