Bangladesh’s second LNG terminal set to commence operations

According to Reuters, Bangladesh is expecting to start operations at its second LNG terminal in mid-March with some supply constraints.
Operators Summit Corp and Mitsubishi Corp expect to commence operations at the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) by mid-March, ahead of schedule. However, due to delays relating to the construction of domestic pipelines running inland from the coast, it is reported that the facility will initially be underutilised and unable to fully meet the capital Dhaka’s gas demand.
Until construction of the pipeline is complete, the FSRU will reportedly be limited to handling 300 million ft3/d of gas. Once the pipeline is completed, it will then be able to operate at full capacity and regasify up to 500 million ft3/d.
According to Ali Al-Mamun, managing director of the Gas Transmission Company Limited (a subsidiary of Petrobangla), the target is “to complete all the connecting gas transmission pipelines by April.”
