Diamond mine power plant to be fuelled by LNG

LNG Industry,

Chart has announced that it will provide the system engineering, manufacturing and start-up of an LNG storage and vaporisation system for a gas-fuelled power plant. The plant is at Stornoway Diamond Corp.’s Renard mine in Otish Mountains, Quebec, Canada, and consists of 2.1 MW rated gas gen-sets. This will provide enough power generation for the projects standard operating specification of 9.5 MW.

Stornoway predicts that, through using LNG instead of diesel to fuel the plant, they will reduce operating costs by CAN$8 million/yr – CAN$10 million/yr. Over the course of the initial 11 yr of the mine, this will constitute a saving of over CAN$88 million. Additionally, greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced by 43% by using LNG instead of diesel.
