According to Bloomberg, Japan’s Shizuoka Gas Co., which purchases approximately 1 million tpy of LNG, is aiming to complete the construction of a reloading facility at its Sodeshi terminal in April 2016. The company is aiming to resell cargoes to neighbouring Asian countries, including South Korea and China.
The terminal will become the first facility in Japan to resell cargoes on a regular basis. The only other terminal in the country that has a reloading facility belongs to Kansai Electric Power Co., which reloaded a cargo in May 2008 at its Sakai terminal, following completion of the project in 2007.
Hirotaka Kaneda, the Deputy General Manager at Shizuoka’s feedstock terminal, said: “There is no point for major companies to do the reloading business. […] As their procurement volumes are big, reloading one or two cargoes doesn’t help cut their average costs much.”
