Suntien Green Energy to build LNG import terminal in China

Reuters is reporting that Suntien Green Energy’s plans to build an LNG receiving terminal in northern China have been granted state approval.

Suntien Green Energy is a Chinese wind power producer and piped gas distributor backed by the Hebei provincial government.

The company’s plans to make an initial investment of US$1.15 billion in a first-stage receiving terminal, capable of handling 5 million tpy of LNG by the end of 2022. Eventually this handling capacity will be increased to 12 million tpy.

The terminal will reportedly be comprised of eight 200 000 m3 storage tanks, and a docking berth suitable for LNG carriers with capacities from 80 000 to 266 000 m3.

Suntien has said it will finance the project with its own capital, supplemented with loans from financial institutions.
