Santos GLNG’s new high-visibility road safety vehicles have been making tracks across the Maranoa region, travelling 12 000 km since they were launched in the region in March 2014.

The vehicles will be on the roads over the Easter and Anzac Day long weekends to continue driving home the road safety message to the Santos GLNG workforce, covering ground from Roma to Wallumbilla in the south and up to the Arcadia Valley in the north.

The vehicles are used by Santos GLNG’s road safety team to monitor road conditions and help further improve the safe driving standards of Santos GLNG’s workforce across the Maranoa region.

Santos GLNG Maranoa Regional Manager, Sam Klaas, said the vehicles featured the Queensland Police Service’s crucial Fatal Five messages and travel within Santos GLNG’s operational footprint: “Road safety is a top priority at Santos GLNG and the new vehicles are the most recent step we’ve taken to ensure our drivers are safe on the road at all times,” Mr Klaas said.

“The added benefit is that these vehicles are a highly visible road safety reminder for not only our people, but everyone in the community.

“Santos has been operating in Queensland for decades with a strong safety record but we want to make it better. We are here for the long term and want to remain a valued member of the community, which is why we want to ensure we’re doing everything we can to be safe on the roads.

In 2013, Santos GLNG employees drove 8.3 million km in work vehicles, all of which are fitted with an In Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) to track a range of driving behaviour and set standards that go above and beyond the basics of road safety.

“We have seen significant improvements in driver performance over the past year and our people are living proof that you can drive vast distances and do it safely,” Mr Klaas said.
