Yamal LNG exports accelerate ahead of winter

LNG Industry,

Reuters is reporting that LNG exports from Novatek’s Yamal LNG facility in the Arctic have come on stream faster than expected and recently exceeded volumes from Russia’s other LNG facility, Sakhalin-II, for the first time in August.

The speed at which commissioning of the project took place surprised many in the industry, as it bore stark contrast to the chronic delays experienced at other facilities. Additional volumes from the start-up of another facility should now arrive in time for the northern hemisphere winter; a typical time for price spikes.

Novatek recently announced it had begun commissioning Yamal’s third train and that its first two trains were running at full capacity (11 million tpy).
