GTT launches BOG monitoring system

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has announced that it has launched LNG Advisor – a boil-off gas (BOG) monitoring system designed for LNG carriers.

Ship crews will be provided with real time data and energy performance by LNG Advisor, as the system will automatically monitor the engine and gas combustion unit consumptions of BOG, heavy fuel oil and marine diesel oil. In addition to this, natural and forced BOG will be monitored during operations.

LNG Advisor will continuously monitor tank vapour pressure, the cruising speed of the ship and the motions of the ship. The thermodynamic state of the cargo can also be analysed through the use of a tool featured in LNG Advisor, which calculates the LNG saturated vapour pressure. The required LNG can also be estimated by the crew through the use of LNG Advisor, as the system features an LNG heel calculator.

The system will be marketed by Cryometrics – a wholly-owned subsidiary of GTT. Cryometrics will also provide other services for the optimisation of operational performance on LNG carriers, LNG-fuelled vessels, as well as vessels carrying other liquefied gases.

The Chairman and CEO of GTT, Philippe Berterottière, said: “LNG Advisor illustrates GTT's ambition. Beyond the state-of-the-art technologies we provide, we are keen to support ship owners and charterers in optimising the operational performance of their vessels. This will benefit all the LNG industry. Our new service, which provides reliable data on the ship's energy performance, is only a first step. We will further develop high performance systems helping crews to optimise their operations and reduce the losses related to BOG.”
