Wärtsilä Corp. has released a statement claiming that John Hatley, Vice President, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions in America, has been elected to the board of directors of the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF). SGMF is a new, non-governmental organisation (NGO), and was created to encourage safety and the use of industry best practices when using gas a marine fuel.

Hatley said: “I believe the SGMF will play a pivotal role in promoting the safe adoption of gas as a preferred fuel throughout the marine global markets, both today and in the future. It is my honour to represent Wärtsilä within this premier organisation, and to assist the marine industry in its move forward into this new gas fuel era.”

Since 2010, Hatley has worked at Wärtsilä to shape North America’s adoption of marine gas fuel. He has helped to generate momentum in gas supply, regulatory framework and training.
