According to Reuters, the head of Novatek, Leonid Mikhelson, has stated that the company needs to increase the speed of construction of LNG reloading facilities after the US criticised Norway for helping it to tranship gas.

In November, the US State Department reportedly said that allowing ship-to-ship (STS) transfers to be executed in Norwegian waters from Yamal (Russia) undercuts Europe’s efforts to diversify its energy supply.

According to Reuters, Mikhelson did not directly mention the US when he stated that Norway was facing pressure from other countries because of STS transfers of Yamal LNG.

In addition to this, the head of the Russian gas producer reportedly added that the company is planning to develop an LNG reloading facility located in the Murmansk region in North West Russia in 2022.
