Triyards wins contract for the construction of two LNG-fuelled ferries

Triyards Holdings Ltd, through its subsidiary, Strategic Marine, has announced that it has won a contract from Rederji Doeksen – a Dutch ferry operator – for the construction of two LNG-fuelled aluminium catamarans. The contract is worth approximately €44 million.
The two RoPax ferries, which were developed by BMT Nigel Gee from Southampton, UK, will include single-fuel LNG propulsion systems. Construction is scheduled to commence in summer 2016, with delivery expected for 2Q18. The ferries are capable of carrying up to 600 passengers and 64 cars.
The CEO of Strategic Marine, Mark Schiller, said: “We foresee an increased focus in the environmental aspects of marine transportation and LNG emerging as the fuel of choice for vessels and ferries. Our focus on the large ferry market is beginning to reap the desired results with this recent win, as we continue to focus on the vertical product chain for aluminium vessels.”
