LNG key to energy supply diversity in Poland

According to Reuters, PGNIG, Poland’s largest gas company, has increased its purchases of LNG spot cargoes as it strives to diversify its gas imports.
Maciej Wozniak, PGNIG’s vice president of trade, has reported that so far this year the company has acquired four spot cargoes. This marks a rapid change of pace compared to last year, in which PGNIG imported a total of five cargoes for the whole year.
As a result of this increase in purchasing, the company’s total LNG imports are predicted to rise to approximately 8 million t in 2023, from less than 3 million t this year, according to Wozniak.
“After 2022, we’re going to change completely the direction of supplies into more of a diversified portfolio,” Wozniak continued.
PGNIG’s primary aim is to reduce its reliance on gas imports from Russia. Thus far, LNG cargoes from Qatar, the US and Norway have provided the best opportunities for supply diversification.
