According to a statement released by the Orkney Islands Council in Scotland, an LNG ship-to-ship (STS) transfer is set to take place between 9 – 10 January 2016. The transfer will be executed by Fendercare Marine.

Arctic Princess, an LNG tanker, will transfer the cargo to the Excelerate, which arrived in Scapa Flow on 6 January.

The Orkney Islands Council’s Harbour Master and Head of Marine Services, Brian Archibald, said: “This will be the fourth STS operation involving LNG to take place in the Flow. It follows earlier successful LNG transfers in 2007, 2010 and 2013.

“Meticulous planning has gone into our preparations. All the agencies involved have taken part in a detailed run-through of every aspect of the operation.”

A Notice to Mariners has been issued, advising the use of a 500 m exclusion zone whilst the vessels are moving and when they are completing the LNG transfer.
