Corpus Christi delivers its first LNG import cargo to Spain

LNG Industry,

Reganosa’s plant in the port of Ferrol has received Spain’s first LNG cargo from Corpus Christi, Texas. The cargo was purchased by the multinational commodity trading company, Trafigura.

The LNG carrier which delivered the cargo was the Excalibur from Belgium, 277 m in length and with a 43.4 m beam. It was built in 2002, with a dead weight of 77.82 t and a capacity of 144 000 m3.

Reganosa’s plant in the port of Ferrol was a pioneer when it received the first Spanish and the second European importation of North American LNG in July 2016 from Sabine Pass, Louisiana. The LNG carrier for this delivery was the Sestao Knutsen.

The port of Ferrol is positioning itself to play an important role in the increasing LNG flow that will come to Europe from North America. Furthermore, Spain is expected to be one of the main importers of LNG from North America, due to its existing gas infrastructure and the long-term contracts signed by its main energy companies. Ferrol’s location on the Atlantic coast means the Reganosa plant is well-positioned to tap into the flow of LNG heading its way.
