Alpha Process Controls unveils couplings for small scale LNG transfers

Alpha Process Controls has announced that its Cryogenic Emergency Release Collar Couplings (CERCs) for small scale LNG transfers are on show at the Gastech exhibition and conference in Tokyo, Japan.

The range is available in 1.5 in, 2.5 in. and 3 in. configurations and uses a mechanical cable release system instead of the conventional break-bolt type, thereby reducing the forces required to separate the coupling. Using this technology means that conventional break-bolt couplings, which can place excessive loads on transfer pipework and hose systems, are not required.

The CERCs are on show for the first time at the company’s stand (17-130), and will appear alongside the company’s existing engineering systems for the safe transfer of hazardous liquids. These include its Marine Engineering Release Couplings for floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), STS and LNG bunkering.

The launch of the small scale CERC range supports Alpha Process Control’s increasing presence in the global LNG market. The company has recently reached agreements with Tachyon in South Korea and Somec in Japan, which will represent the company in South East Asia.

The Managing Director of Alpha Process Controls, John Lamb, said: “The small scale CERC systems are valuable additions to our suite of safety breakaway couplings and we are delighted to introduce them to the industry at Gastech.

“Our simple, but effective cable release mechanism offers real benefits in terms of maintaining productivity and operational continuity, especially for facilities where loading arms are out of commission due to an earthquake or other major event.

“As a result, our coupling systems are gaining prominence as part of our role in the efficient and safe operations of the global LNG industry.”

More information on Alpha Process Controls’ CERCs can be found in the company’s article in the April issue of LNG Industry magazine.
