Gazprom has announced that a keel-laying ceremony has been held for Russia’s first LNG-fuelled passenger vessel, Chaika LNG.

The ceremony was held at the shipyard of the Zelenodolsk Plant in Tatarstan. Chaika LNG is a leisure and sightseeing boat, and is intended for passenger voyages, including via tourist routes. It can accommodate at least 170 people, and is expected to be launched as early as this year.

According to the statement, there are plans for the region to introduce several more LNG-powered tourist vessels, which Gazprom will be responsible for refuelling.
