LNG Industry,

The Huu-ay-aht First Nations has announced that it has become the first British Columbia (B.C.) Nation to approve the co-management development of an LNG facility.

On 25 March 2017, a referendum was held in which 70% of Huu-ay-aht citizens showed faith in the Huu-ay-aht H?aw?iih? (Hereditary Chiefs) and elected Executive Council’s vision, and the Sarita LNG facility became real.

The vote means that the Nation will now proceed in a co-management relationship with Steelhead LNG proposed for their traditional territory in Sarita Bay, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada.
