Representative Boustany supports Venture Global LNG
US Representative Charles W. Boustany has sent a letter in support of the Venture Global LNG project, to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Addressed to FERC Chairman, Cheryl LaFleur, the letter reads:
Louisiana’s energy economy
“I am writing to express my support for the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the 3rd Congressional District of Louisiana to global markets. Specifically, I write in support of the Calcasieu Pass Project, being developed by Venture Global. Natural gas is an integral part of Louisiana’s energy economy, creating thousands of jobs and economic development in all sectors of the natural gas value chains, in South Louisiana, and throughout the nation.
“The Calcasieu Pass Project is a proposed US$ 4.25 billion export facility located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, south of the city of Lake Charles. The 203-acre project site lies along the Calcasieu Ship Channel where it meets the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected the project will create approximately 1500 construction jobs, 325 indirect jobs and 100 permanent jobs for the community.
Non-FTA export approval
“To date, the Calcasieu Pass Project has received authorisation from the US Department of Energy to export 5 million tpa of LNG to countries with whom the US already has a free trade agreement. Additionally, the project is seeking authorisation from both the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the US Department of Energy to export 10 million tpa of LNG to non-FTA countries.
“The United States has become a critical player in the global energy markets, with our recent record natural gas production. Louisiana’s existing pipeline infrastructure and economic development incentives make the state a top competitor for LNG exports in the national and international marketplace for years to come. These valuable and significant advantages should be capitalised on now. I respectfully request every proper consideration to be provided to Venture Global LNG’s application.”
