Chevron appoints new Vice Chairman

Chevron Corp. has released a statement naming Michael K. Wirth as the company’s new Vice Chairman.

Wirth currently serves as Executive Vice President of Midstream and Development, and will commence his new role on 1 February 2017. He will join the company’s board of directors and add policy, government and public affairs to his existing portfolio of responsibilities. Currently, he oversees midstream and development, and is accountable for supply and trading, gas commercialisation, and the company’s midstream operating units engaged in transportation and power, as well as corporate strategy and business development.

John S. Watson, the Chairman and CEO of Chevron, said: “As a senior officer of Chevron, Mike has made significant contributions to the company’s success.

“Mike’s experience, proven leadership and record of accomplishment will enable him to make a strong contribution to our board.”

Wirth joined the company in 1982 as a design engineer. Since then, he has held a number of engineering, construction and operations positions. Prior to serving in his current role, Wirth served as Executive Vice President of Downstream & Chemicals. Prior to that, he acted as President of Global Supply and Trading, where he led the company’s worldwide supply and trading operations, in addition to its aviation, marine and asphalt businesses. Even earlier in his career, Wirth served as the President of Marketing for Chevron’s Asia/Middle East/Africa marketing business, based in Singapore. He also served on the board of directors for Caltex Australia Ltd and GS Caltex in South Korea.
