According to Reuters, LNG bunkering operations tripled in Spain last year, with 195 total operations carried out at Spanish ports.

This is compared to just 135 LNG bunkering operations carried out in the previous year. In 2019, Reuters claims 81 704 m3 of LNG was supplied to ships. This trend is reportedly continuing this year, with 35 operations (with a combined volume of 12 055 m3) carried out in January 2020 alone.

According to Reuters, Spain has seven LNG terminals, which is more than any other European country. All of these terminals have been – or are being – adapted to allow them to provide both small scale and bunkering services.

Reportedly, the number of LNG-fuelled ships in Spain will rise to at least 11 within the next two years. Currently, the country has just six LNG-fuelled vessels.
