LNG engine room unit being transferred to Meyer Werft

The floating unit is 140 m long, 42 m wide, and is four decks high. The AIDAcosma cruise ship will commence operations in May 2021, with cruises to Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea. By October 2021, the ship will be departing from Kiel on weekly alternating cruises to the Norwegian fjords and cities on the Baltic Sea. In the 2021/2022 winter season, the vessel will be sailing the Persian Gulf from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The floating engine room unit (FERU) features four dual-fuel engines and three LNG tanks with a total capacity of 3550 m3.
For AIDA Cruises, the use of low-emission LNG as a bridge technology is an important step on the path to emission-neutral cruising. Through the use of LNG, local ship emissions are sustainably reduced. In collaboration with industry and research partners, the company is also already investing in the future use of synthetic liquefied gas and renewable fuels, such as biofuels.
AIDA Cruises claims it will be putting its third LNG cruise ship into service as early as 2023.
