Sakhalin Energy has announced that it has signed a 10-year LNG tanker charter agreement with Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GMT).

The vessel, Ob River, is currently under a short-term charter with Sakhalin Energy. In 2015, the company announced a tender for the long-term charter of an ice-class LNG tanker commencing in 2018. This tender was awarded to GMT.

The vessel features membrane-type tanks with a total capacity of 149 700 m3. It is fully adapted for use at low temperatures, and has a 1A FS ice class, meaning that it is able to operate efficiently in ice conditions. This is a key condition for transporting LNG from the Sakhalin-2 project terminal in the port of Prigorodnoye, Russia, year-round.
