LNG Industry,
According to the latest Reuters report, Inpex Corp. and its partners have purchased a cargo of LNG to cool the Ichthys LNG facility ahead of a potential start-up operation.
Such a step indicates the facility, located in northern Australia’s Darwin, is getting closer to starting output. This is encouraging news in light of the fact that the project has experienced several delays and technical difficulties costing billions of dollars.
The LNG tanker Pacific Breeze is currently in the Java Sea and expected to reach Darwin on 26 April. The ship has the capacity to carry up to 182 000 m3 of LNG, according to Inpex.
A spokesman for Inpex said the vessel was chartered to transport LNG bought from another LNG project with the objective of cooling the onshore Ichthys LNG plant ahead of the project’s start-up.
