Malaysia state government looking to buy 10% stake in LNG train

According to Reuters, Malaysia’s Sarawak state government is in talks with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) to acquire a 10% equity stake in an LNG facility at the company’s complex in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Reportedly, the government is looking to purchase a stake in the 3.6 million tpy LNG Train 9. The train started operations in January 2017, raising the complex’s overall production capacity to 30 million tpy.

The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Abang Johari, reportedly said: “The Sarawak government is actively negotiating with Petronas on the details of the shareholders agreement on the 10% equity in the Malaysia LNG (MLNG) Plant Train 9.

"We are also working with Petronas for a larger equity in MLNG 2 plant."
