Qatargas is participating as a main sponsor in the 7th International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), currently being held at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha.

Under the theme Unlocking Energy through Innovation, Technology and Capability, the conference addresses evolving global energy trends and what the industry needs to do to overcome the technical challenges it currently faces. The event also highlights the importance of technical innovation and international cooperation in ensuring the industry’s continued growth and development.

Global LNG value chain
Qatargas views the conference as a platform to discuss and share perspectives on current and future industry topics, exchange knowledge and benefit from the expertise and capabilities of participating countries and organisations. The event also provides networking opportunities with industry peers from across the global LNG value chain.

Qatargas CEO (Engineering & Ventures), Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani, participated in a session titled The Future of Integrated Project Management in a Cyclic Environment. He delivered a presentation sharing Qatargas’ experiences and the company’s focus to reduce its environmental footprint.

"Guided by the visionary leadership of His Highness the Emir, and in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030, Qatargas has developed the Qatargas Direction Statement with our Vision 2015. Our mission is to safely, efficiently and reliably manage and operate all of our resources, including people, reserves, facilities and the environment," he commented.

Flare gas reduction
Elaborating on Qatargas' flare reduction initiatives he added: "Qatargas has made significant progress in reducing flaring from its LNG trains in line with the increased national focus on flare minimization and the company's desire to reduce its emissions and carbon footprint. This has been made possible through operational initiatives on source reduction, increased plant reliability, reduced shutdown/start-up flaring and a sustained focus on flare minimization facilitated by multi-disciplinary Flare Management Teams".

The presentation also highlighted Qatargas' pioneering Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery Project (JBOG) and other key environmental initiatives.
