Qatargas awarded ‘Gold Corporate Partner’ status

Qatargas, the world’s largest producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), has been awarded ‘Gold Corporate Partner’ status by leading professional body, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).

IChemE awards ‘Corporate Partner’ status to organisations that exemplify good practice for their support and development of chemical and process engineers.

‘Gold Corporate Partner’ status is IChemE’s highest level of corporate partnership and requires organisations to meet high standards in attracting, training, developing and recognising chemical engineering talent.

Qatargas is the sixth global organisation to hold ‘Gold Corporate Partner’ status, following Bechtel, BP, Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO), KBR and Sellafield Ltd.

Qatargas was established in 1984 and produces 42 million tpy of LNG. In 2012, Qatargas secured IChemE accreditation for its in-company training scheme.

Qatargas’s Chief Operating Officer (Engineering and Ventures), Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla al-Thani, said: “This award as a Gold Corporate Partner gives Qatargas increased recognition as a top employer in the chemical engineering community.

“Through this partnership with IChemE, Qatargas seeks to inspire the next generation and help to ensure the pipeline of young chemical engineers keeps flowing and attracts students into considering a career in chemical engineering.”

Learning and Development Department Manager, Adnan al-Shaibi, added: “Our national graduates under Individual Development Plans (IDPs) as well as those who have successfully reached their established positions will continue to be mentored and provided with development opportunities to reach their full potential.

“As scheme administrators for promoting and supporting IChemE registrations at Qatargas, we are committed to our employees’ investment in their future roles of becoming professionals and acquiring a globally recognised accreditation.”

Neil Atkinson, IChemE’s Director of Qualifications and International Development commented: “Qatargas have made a sustained commitment over recent years to invest in their staff.
