LNG keeps customers online during gas supply outage

Thigpen Energy has announced that, last month, it provided a portable onsite LNG storage and high-pressure vaporisation solution to end-users on the US-Mexico border.

According to the statement, more than 8 million standard ft3 of LNG was stored onsite. Thigpen Energy’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Preston McDonald, explained that the LNG was vaporised using the “latest high-pressure injection technology”.

Through the use of cryogenic pumps and glycol water-bath heating, Thigpen claims that peak flow rates of 500 MCF/H at 460 psig provides the gas necessary to keep end-users supplied during the natural gas supply network outage.

As part of routine distribution integrity inspection, the local gas utility reportedly found anomalies in three sections of high-pressure pipeline. They determined the sections counting the anomalies would need to be replaced and for that to occur, gas supply would need to be shut off to end-users unless a temporary solution could be found.

Thigpen, therefore, worked alongside three gas utilities in developing a safe and reliable solution, which provided the necessary natural gas to all downstream customers affected by the outage.
